With high quality as the fundamental axis of our teaching, the 4 pillars that support our work are:
Culture
According to Georg Simmel it is “the cultivation of individuals through the interference of external forms that have been objectified in the course of history.” “The cultivation of individuals” because Cicero already referred to the cultivation of the soul or, as we would say today, the formation of the mind. “Through the interference of external forms” because we can cultivate ourselves, for example, through art and science. “That have been objectified,” as for example in anthropology and sociology. And “in the course of history” because culture turns out to be a set of knowledge and wisdom acquired by humanity over time.
From what has been said here we can derive the importance of trying to historically contextualize what we learn and this implies accepting that our knowledge is relative and limited by the successes and errors of others in the past, as well as by fashions and preferences of our time.
Ethics
Understood as the academic discipline that studies morality, to guide human behavior towards virtue, happiness and duty. It is about trying to understand the general principles that justify any rule or law to make us responsible for the actions we take according to our free will. The goal is to act oriented towards good, truth, justice and beauty.
As a consecuence, it is very important to us to understand high principles that we can take as a guide to act, accepting that laws and norms are fleeting and questionable. When one proceeds according to principles, one is capable of making decisions for the benefit of others, even sacrificing oneself if necessary.
Education
Once we accept our historical cultural limitations and have an ethical framework for action, we can learn skills, build knowledge and develop the ability to induce or deduce. Then, we can undertake an open and voluntary learning process that goes beyond preconceived concepts and that tends to favor the development of consciousness, reason and intelligence, beyond mere memorization.
Therefore, the importance of non-formal, voluntary education, aimed at learning to know and feeling the pleasure of understanding and discovering. Education must contribute to the global development of each person and allows them to make their own judgment.
Legacy
When our knowledge is ethical, we are ready to leave a mark for our successors. We refer to what we can remember with admiration and pride and that is capable of inspiring others. Legacy is this intangible transmitted through education and experience. This is where the concept of cultural legacy arises as the result of the transmission of knowledge, values and customs.
Thus, we can learn from the experiences of past generations by building on what we have, but also contribute to our culture and give back some of what we have received to say with authority that we have not lived in vain.
